The BC Trawl Groundfish fishery sustainably harvests Arrowtooth Flounder using bottom trawl gear. This species is found along the entire coast of British Columbia at depths ranging from 100 to 2,700 feet, preferring soft-bottom habitats such as sand and mud. Arrowtooth Flounder primarily feed on smaller fish and invertebrates, playing a key role in the marine food web.
Commercially harvested year-round based on individual catch quotas, Arrowtooth Flounder is available in several product forms, including whole fresh or frozen and skinless fillets. Due to its delicate flesh, this species is best suited for applications such as steaming, baking, and frying. While traditionally considered a secondary catch, this is a targeted catch by the frozen at sea vessels. In BC’s groundfish trawl fishery, Arrowtooth Flounder has gained popularity in both domestic and international markets.
